Tangkoko Duasudara Nature Reserve (1°29’N/125° 11’E)is a 8890 ha forest located on the northeast tip of the northern peninsula of the Regancy of Minahasa. The reserve contains tehere volcanoes : the 1109m Mt. tangkoko ic ash cone of Batuangus Duasudara, the parasitic as cone of Batuangus witch resulted from an eruption in 1893 , and the 1351 m twin peaks of Duasudara. Geologists believe that there are still some volcanic activities brewing at Tangkoko. Reserve along Batuputih rever to its headwaters and the skirt the Batuputih Duasudara road to the letter village. The boundary crosses from Dusudara to Pinangunian, cutting to the Northwest of kasuari village and meeting the sea again at Batuangus poin. Coral reef extends from the taman wisata area to the eastern coastal area of the reserve.
The Tangkoko Duasudara area has been famous since the time of wallacea, a brithis naturalist who visited Sulawesi in the 1850s, for its abundant and unusual wildlife. In 1919 the Ducth colonial government declared tangkoko a nature monument. In 1942, the nature protection Ordinance stablished Tangkoko as a cagar alam, or strict nature reserve. After independence the reserve was retained a cagar alam and responsibility feel under the Ministry of Forestry. In 1978, the neighboarding 4421 (ha) protection forest of Duasudara was added to the reserve. In the 1980s, a 300 ha section of the cagar alam was excised and declared hutan wisata, or recreation forest.
